Two people killed when train hits truck near Lisbon
Rural crossing doesn’t have crossing gates or warning lights

Two people were killed Friday afternoon when the semi-truck they were riding in was hit by a Union Pacific freight train as they were crossing the tracks.
The crash happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the 120 block of 115th Street near Lisbon in Cedar County. An eastbound Union Pacific train hit the truck on the driver’s side, according to the Iowa State Patrol, which investigated the crash.
Lisbon/Mount Vernon Police, Fire and Ambulance assisted at the scene, as did the Mechanicsville Fire Department and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The rural crossing — which is positioned on a gentle curve in the track — does not have crossing gates or warning lights.
Names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of relatives.
