Two killed after two-vehicle collision on Williams Boulevard

CEDAR RAPIDS — Police are investigating the cause of an early morning accident that left two people dead and three people injured Sunday.
According to a Cedar Rapids Police Department media release, emergency responders were dispatched at 2:56 a.m. for a two-vehicle accident in the 2100 block of Williams Boulevard SW.
After their initial investigation, police said they think a Dodge Caliber was traveling east on Williams Boulevard SW when it began to spin out of control and struck a Toyota RAV4 traveling west on Williams Boulevard.

The 23-year-old driver of the Dodge Caliber was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. A 29-year-old passenger in the Dodge Caliber was transported to a hospital, but died there following treatment.
The three adult passengers of the Toyota SUV were all seriously injured, but their injuries are not believed to be fatal, according to police. They were transported to a hospital for medical care to help recover from their injuries.
Names of those involved in the crash are being withheld pending notification of families.
Police said the investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing. Investigators are asking for anyone with video footage or who witnessed the incident to contact them at (319) 286-5491.
