Truck driver killed in Highway 30 crash late Sunday in Linn County
No structural damage to bridge column that was hit, Iowa DOT says

A semi-trailer truck driver was killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 30 in Linn County.
According to a Linn County Sheriff’s Office news release, law enforcement and rescue agencies responded to reports of a crash at 9:50 p.m. in the area of Highway 30 and Highway 100, at the southwest corner of Cedar Rapids.
Emergency personnel discovered the semi-trailer truck on eastbound Highway 30 had left the roadway, entered the median and struck the guardrail and bridge column. The driver was alone in the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
The Iowa Department of Transportation also responded to the scene and advised that the bridge columns did not sustain any structural damage in the crash, the sheriff’s office said in a response to a question on social media.
The crash remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
