A juvenile driver was killed by the still-moving vehicle he and a juvenile passenger were fleeing from, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
At 8:56 p.m., a Linn County deputy spotted the vehicle, which was reported as stolen out of Cedar Rapids, heading northbound on Interstate 380, south of Center Point, a news release stated.
The driver failed to pull over after the deputy switched on his emergency lights and siren for a traffic stop, and led the deputy on a vehicle pursuit northbound on I-380, then westbound from Urbana on Highway 150.
The two occupants fled from the moving vehicle in the 2800 block of Highway 150 and the vehicle struck a house. The passenger was taken into custody. The driver was struck by the vehicle and died at the scene, deputies said. No one inside the house was injured.
The names of the juveniles were withheld by the sheriff’s office pending notification of family. The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, the release stated.
