Center Point man charged with vehicular homicide in November crash

CENTER POINT - A Center Point man involved in a fatal crash there in November was drunk at the time of the crash and had drugs in his system.
According to a Linn County attorney's Office criminal complaint, 21-year-old Kyle F. Slaymaker had a .19 percent blood alcohol content at the time of a fatal, two-vehicle crash on Nov. 21. Authorities said blood and urine specimens also showed the presence of THC - the active ingredient in marijuana - and amphetamines.
The crash killed Joshua D. Reed, a passenger in Slaymaker's car.

According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred around 11:40 p.m. in the 4500 block of Urbana Road. The sheriff's office said Slaymaker lost control of his vehicle, hit an oncoming vehicle and then a utility pole. Reed was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
According to the county attorney's office, the Event Data module taken from Slaymaker's vehicle showed he was driving 99 mph before the crash. Additionally, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in Slaymaker's vehicle.
Slaymaker now faces charges of vehicular homicide, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
