UnityPoint hospice grief camp helps children cope with death

CEDAR RAPIDS — UnityPoint Hospice is hosting Camp Embracing Memories for area children between the ages of seven to 16 who are coping with the death of a loved one.
The camp is scheduled for Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca, 3271 Sandy Beach Rd NE, Solon. There is no cost to attend and meals are included.
Designed to help children effectively cope with loss in a safe, accepting environment, activities focus on the grieving process, encouraging interaction with others who have experienced similar losses. Trained hospice staff and volunteers provide education and support to enhance coping skills and abilities, while still allowing children to feel connected to the loved one who died.
