The Solon Community Pantry Emergency Assistance Fund, which assists families experiencing financial issues, is asking for donations as it continues to receive requests for support.
Donations may be made to Emergency Assistance Fund, P.O. Box 344, Solon, IA 52333.
The pantry set up the initial program at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020 as a way to assist families in need by providing weekly grocery items. In December 2020, the pantry learned that some families were experiencing greater financial issues which would fall under the pantry’s umbrella. This led to the establishment of the Emergency Assistance Fund, which offers financial help for rent and utilities, along with other emergency requests.

To date, the pantry and fund have helped more than 20 families, many several times, as the pandemic severely impacted households. As costs continue to rise, organizers expect financial support needs will continue.
