Sober CR support group to host Sober Adult Prom event

CEDAR RAPIDS — Sober CR, a community of adult nondrinkers, invites you to a Sober Adult Prom this summer. The formal event will take place on June 10 from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Family Room, 429 E. Main St., Central City.

The evening includes entertainment from DJ Anthony Goedert of Big Tone Music Productions, as well as a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, dessert pizza and prom photo selfies, as well as a raffle. Good Morrow Pizza Truck of Shellsburg will be offering wood fire cooked pizzas for an additional cost.

Sober CR, founded in 2022, is a group of those who choose not to drink, but still want to be involved in social events without having the social pressures of alcohol. The social group meets twice a month on Fridays to enjoy dinner, conversation, celebration and friendship.

“The thing about sobriety,” member Cody English said at the group’s first gathering, “is that once you are sober, all you want to do is talk about it, so let’s talk about it!”

After the group met several times, they decided to host an event to get together, dress up and celebrate. Tickets for the Adult Sober Prom are $39 each and can be purchased at SoberCR.com.
