-- The Hawkeyes are now 6-4 and bowl eligible. They join Penn State (9-1), Michigan State (9-2), Ohio State (8-2), Minnesota (7-3) and Northwestern as the Big Ten's six bowl-eligibles. Wisconsin (5-5) needs a win over Minnesota at Camp Randall this weekend to earn bowl status. The Badgers close with Cal Poly. Illinois (5-5) needs a victory over Ohio State or at Northwestern to earn bowl consideration.
-- Safety Tyler Sash earned Big Ten defensive player of the week. The redshirt freshman had eight tackles and an interception that set up the Hawkeyes' game-winning drive, which culminated in Daniel Murray's 31-yard field goal with 1 second left on the Kinnick Stadium clock. The Hawkeyes' defense held high-powered Penn State to 23 points and 289 total yards. The Lions entered the game leading the Big Ten in both stats (418 points and 459.8 yards). PSU drove into the red zone five times and came away with just two TDs. Sash is the fifth Hawkeye to earn Big Ten player of the week honors, joining D-tackle Karl Klug (Florida International), WR Andy Brodell (special teams vs. Iowa State), RB Shonn Greene (Wisconsin) and MLB Pat Angerer (Wisconsin).
-- Around 2,000 tickets remain for this weekend's game against Purdue (3-7, 1-5). Iowa has a streak of 36 home sellouts, dating back to the 2003 season. The last Iowa game that wasn't a sellout was Buffalo on Sept. 6, 2003.
-- TE Tony Moeaki was the lone injury of note last weekend. Coach Kirk Ferentz said Moeaki might've strained a muscle again. A strained calf kept Moeaki out of for four games earlier this year. He returned two weeks ago and suffered a mild concussion. He played Saturday and left in the second half. There was no update on his status for Purdue. OG Seth Olsen (left ankle) went the entire game. "He just told us I'm playing and I'm not coming out," Ferentz said. "That was music to our ears."
-- Saturday will be Iowa's last game against Purdue until Oct. 10, 2011 at West Lafayette, Ind. The Boilermakers and Illinois come off Iowa's schedule next year, with Ohio State and Michigan back in the fold. Purdue's next trip to Kinnick will be Oct. 20, 2012.
-- Defensive tackle Matt Kroul has 47 career starts, one start from equaling the school record of 48 set by OL Bruce Nelson from 1999-02.
-- Iowa plus-69 fourth-quarter point differential is the best in the conference. The Hawkeyes plus-85 second half point differential is second best in the Big Ten behind Penn State (plus-116).
-- Purdue ranks No. 118 out of 119 FBS schools in punting with a 30.04 average.
-- Iowa has recorded at least one takeaway in 30 of is last 32 games, dating back to the 2006 season.
