As a new wide receiver at Iowa in his sophomore season, Marvin McNutt watched game film of Jason Avant when Avant played at Michigan.
The receivers coach at Michigan during Avant's time there was Erik Campbell, who moved on to Iowa. And coached McNutt.
Avant and McNutt are now Philadelphia Eagles teammates. McNutt is a rookie.
This Philly.com story has Avant's take on Campbell.
"A lot of guys get here that never really understand coverages, never understand releases," Avant said. "Those things, he teaches you in college. I didn't have to come here and learn them. I knew what it was like to write reports over the summer on cornerbacks. He taught us how to prepare for the game."
Rookie cornerback Shaun Prater of Iowa has missed the last several Cincinnati Bengals practices.
Prater has a knee injury and hasn't practiced in a week.
Bengals.com had the following item earlier this week:
It looks like there will be some new corners to get the Bengals through this crunch of minor but nagging injuries. Besides the leg injury that figures to shelve rookie Dre Kirkpatrick for the next month, the only corner injury that truly has the team concerned are the knee problems of Shaun Prater. Prater, the other drafted corner from the fifth round out of Iowa, missed some of the OTAs and it flared up after the first two camp days sent him to the bench.
The New York Jets have high hopes for running back Shonn Greene. His position coach said he's asking for a "monster season" from Greene.
“I'm asking for a monster season,” running backs coach Anthony Lynn told the New York Daily News. “I think he's one of the best power backs in the game. Why wouldn't you?”
On the Iowa State side, here's a link to a long story on rookie offensive tackle Kelechi Osemele of ISU, now with the Baltimore Ravens.
