There will be no future landfill after the Marion landfill closes in 2044. SWA confident, but still figuring out options and partnerships

This summer, the Solid Waste Agency is starting to narrow down options for the future on the 360-acre landfill in Marion.

Cedar Rapids and Linn County residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about what will happen after the current Marion landfill and recycling location closes permanently on June 30, 2044.

With the assistance of a grant, the Solid Waste Agency and Trees Forever will distribute 1,000 trees in effort to help rebuild tree canopy lost to the 2020 derecho.
