CEDAR RAPIDS — The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union Local 100G put up a picket line Monday morning outside Ingredion Inc.’s facility on First Street SW near downtown Cedar Rapids.
The contract between the union and the multinational ingredient maker expired Monday morning, Ingredion told The Gazette via email.
“To date, we have not reached an agreement and the union has placed us on notice of their intention to engage in a work stoppage effective today,” said Becca Hary, Ingredion corporate communications director.

“Our goal has always been to provide our team members with very competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package. While our team assumes operations of the Cedar Rapids facility, there may be temporary facility stoppages.”
Hary added that, “We have enacted our business continuity plan and we will continue to operate the facility and fulfill our customers’ orders.”
The BCTGM local has not yet responded to a request for comment.
The facility has 127 hourly union employees and 46 salaried non-union employees, Hary said.
This is a developing report.
