CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids-based risk management and insurance brokerage TrueNorth Cos. named Trent Tillman as president, effective today.
Jason Smith, who had been president and chief executive officer, will remain CEO. Tillman, executive vice president of TrueNorth’s transportation division, will keep those responsibilities, the companies said in a new release Monday.
“This transition marks an important milestone in TrueNorth’s succession strategy to remain privately held and perpetuate from within,” the release said.

A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor of arts in finance and real estate, Tillman started with TrueNorth in 2003. In 2011, he became a principal as well as practice leader of the Asset Light Practice within TrueNorth’s transportation division.
Tillman became executive vice president of the transportation division six years later.
He sits on policy committees for the American Trucking Association and is involved with the Iowa Motor Truck Association, Truckload Carriers Association and Intermodal Association of North America, among other organizations.
“I’m thrilled to extend my role as president to Trent and am confident that the decision to co-lead will support our clients, colleagues and communities for years to come,” Smith said.
Privately held TrueNorth has offices in Iowa, Colorado, Illinois and Texas.
