Cedar Rapids Washington’s Hannah Stuelke is Miss Iowa Basketball 2022
The future Iowa Hawkeye is 1 of 8 area players to earn first-team honors on the IPSWA all-state teams

DES MOINES — Hannah Stuelke was hopeful, but unsure.
“This was one of my goals, but since we didn’t make it to state, I didn’t know,” she said.
Now you know.

A senior at Cedar Rapids Washington and a University of Iowa signee, Stuelke was selected as Miss Iowa Basketball 2022 during all-state voting Saturday by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Hard to believe, considering her school’s tradition in girls’ basketball, but Stuelke is the first Washington player to be so honored. The versatile 6-foot-2 forward is the first Metro honoree since Linn-Mar’s Kiah Stokes in 2011.
“It’s been the best four years of my life. So many things have happened that I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” Stuelke said.
Stuelke led the state in scoring this season at 29.1 points per game, and averaged 10.3 rebounds per contest as the Warriors went 16-7.
She finished her career with 1,793 points and 853 rebounds. Washington posted a 55-28 record in her four years. The Warriors were edged in the Class 5A regional finals in 2021 and 2022 by a combined seven points.
At Iowa, Stuelke will join a veteran roster. The Hawkeyes return all five starters from a squad that shared the Big Ten regular-season championship and won the league tournament title Sunday in Indianapolis.
“They’re looking really good, and they don’t lose many players,” Stuelke said. “I’m going to stay in shape. Ball handling, that’s a big part of what I’m going to work on. The girls are going to be faster, stronger and smarter at that level.”
Stuelke is one of eight area players to earn first-team all-state honors. She is joined on the top 5A team by Iowa City High’s Kelsey Joens.
Libby Fandel of state-champion Cedar Rapids Xavier and Callie Levin of Solon are first-team picks in 4A, Ryley Goebel of Center Point-Urbana and Macy Daufeldt of West Liberty are first-teamers in 3A, Kamryn Kurt of North Linn and Lauren Wilson of Springville in 1A.
Joens, a junior and an Iowa State commit, averaged 21.3 points and 6.3 rebounds as City High (19-5) reached the 5A state tournament.
Fandel is one of only two freshmen to earn first-team honors in any class. She was the all-tournament captain as the Saints (20-6) won the 4A title, and led a balanced team in scoring at 13.0 points per contest.
Levin will join Stuelke at Iowa in the fall of 2024. The sophomore guard posted 21.0 points, 4.2 assists and 4.3 steals per game; Solon was 15-8.
Goebel is a senior and a UNI recruit who led CPU to three state-tournament appearances, including a 2019 3A championship. This year’s team went 21-4 as Goebel averaged 17.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game.
Daufeldt is a two-sport first-team all-stater in her senior year; the basketball honor comes on the heels of state-player-of-the-year honors in volleyball. She averaged 18.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as the Comets went 19-5.
Kurt and Wilson led their respective teams in three memorable games this season; the Lynx (23-3) won two of them, including a 58-56 decision in the 1A state quarterfinals. Kurt, a sophomore, averaged 17.7 points and 4.8 assists per game.
Wilson, a senior and a future player at Concordia St. Paul, compiled 24.9 points, 12.3 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per contest for Springville (23-2).
