The first 16 state-qualifying banners for the 2019 Iowa high school baseball season were handed out at diamonds around the state Tuesday night as substate finals took place in Classes 1A and 2A.

When the West Branch baseball team faces a crucial offensive situation, having junior Trey Eagle up to bat usually means good results.
Tuesday night, Eagle provided the Bears with their biggest result in years.
He delivered a two-out, two-strike single to drive in the tying and winning runs as West Branch shocked Camanche.

Jake Hilmer tossed a no-hitter and David Seber and Trevor Boge added two RBIs apiece as the second-ranked Lynx handled Pella Christian.
North Linn (38-5) is making its fourth trip to state. All have come since Boge, Seber and Hilmer entered the program as eighth-graders.

The rematch was a repeat in the winner department.
Alburnett earned its second trip to the state baseball tournament Tuesday night by knocking off HLV, 4-2, in a fine Class 1A substate final. Make that earned a trip to state by knocking off HLV again.
The teams met in June in the regular season, with Alburnett winning an offensive affair, 13-7. This was not that game by a longshot, except for the team that came out ahead.
