Iowa New Play Festival 2021 goes virtual
Event begins Monday and continues through May
Apr. 29, 2021 9:43 am
IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts will host its annual Iowa New Play Festival virtually this year. The festival will feature four productions and eight readings by students in the Iowa Playwrights Workshop, as well as a series of readings by undergraduate playwrights.
Preparing 12 new plays and presenting them is a monumental undertaking that is only possible through the utilization of the UI Department of Theatre Arts’ wide-ranging resources in acting, directing, design, dramaturgy, stage management, and technical support. Through staged readings and productions, the festival showcases the process of new play development.
The festival reading series will take place during the first week of May, from Monday, May 3, to Friday, May 7. The productions will be scheduled at various times during the month of May. Click here for the most up-to-date schedule. Links to watch each of the performances will be made available on each reading or production page on the day of the virtual performance.
