Less than a year after Pei’s Ohana Mandarin closed, Pei’s is making a comeback in a new iteration: SuYu Pei’s Asian Eatery.
David Pei, former manager of Pei’s Ohana Mandarin and owner of the upcoming restaurant, announced plans for the next generation last week. Details surrounding the new restaurant’s plans, including location and opening date, are not yet available.
“We are excited to continue our legacy,” Pei said in a social media post.

The Pei family began serving Cedar Rapids in 1987. After 34 years, their restaurant at 3287 Sixth St. SW closed in June 2021. The restaurant had an expansive Chinese and Japanese menu, as well as one of the few traditional Korean menus in the state.
Scores on 33rd, a sports bar, has since renovated and moved into their old location.
