IOWA CITY - Two Iowa City men are facing burglary charges after one apartment resident caught them in the act.
According to a criminal complaint, at 12:46 a.m. Monday, a resident at 320 E Burlington St. No. 10 heard noises inside his apartment, and found three males (one, a minor) in his apartment preparing to steal his Xbox video game console, Iowa City police said.
Police said the resident attempted to stop the intruders, who were identified as Albert Black, 19, and 20-year-old Morgan Powell, when he was struck on the nose by an object. Shortly after, the trio fled from the apartment, but not without Powell leaving his bag and cell phone behind, police said.
The Xbox was later located after being stashed near the victim's apartment. Police said Powell fled the scene, but was later apprehended. Black admitted to police he was involved in the incident and was identified by the victim shortly after he was taken into police custody.
They are both charged with first-degree burglary, Class B felonies, and are being held at the Johnson County Jail each on $50,000 cash bond.
