Several K-9 unit officers in the Marion area for training helped catch a man who police say robbed a local credit union Wednesday morning.
No one was hurt in hold-up at Linn Area Credit Union, 985 31st St. Police said a white man wearing a mask and a dark-colored hooded sweat shirt came into the credit union around 10:25 a.m. and presented a note to a teller demanding cash. The man left the area with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police said no weapon was displayed in the incident.
Andrew D. Hanson, 32, of Marion, was stopped by police about two blocks away, near the Kirkwood Learning Center, and officers located a bag of cash from the credit union and other evidence nearby. Hanson, who police said admitted to the robbery, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
Deputies with the Iowa County and Johnson County sheriff's offices and an officer with the Coralville Police Department, who were all in the area for training, assisted Marion police with the search for the suspect.
Hanson has several previous convictions for theft, according to online court records.
