CEDAR RAPIDS - Employees were taking inventory at a Cedar Rapids jewelry store Wednesday after an early morning break-in.
Police said someone broke into Siebke Hoyt Jewelers, 4800 First Ave. NE, around 4:35 a.m. Wednesday. A metal post was used to break through the glass front doors and to smash a seven-foot section of a display case near the center of the store.
The burglar “was in and out in 36 seconds,” employee Joe Hoyt said.
Initial damage estimates totaled $1,200, according to the police report. Hoyt said the co-owners believe very little merchandise was taken because 99 percent of the jewelry at the store is kept in a vault at night.
No arrests had been reported later Wednesday.
