A Cedar Rapids man whom police kept from jumping off the roof of his apartment building is accused of trying to take a police officer's gun, threatening to shoot the officer and spitting in his face.
Blake W. Pawledge, 28, of 3409 Williams Pkwy. SW, has been charged with attempting to disarm a peace officer, assault on a peace officer, first-degree harassment and interference with official acts. Officials said he was unsuccessful in his attempt to get the officer's gun.
Police were dispatched to the apartment building at 2 a.m. Wednesday for a disturbance and found Pawledge on the roof, threatening to jump. According to a criminal complaint, after officers pulled Pawledge to safety, he tried to grab the gun of Officer Kevin Lukan. Pawledge is accused of spitting on Lukan and threatening to shoot him when he is released from jail, court documents said.
Pawledge was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for an evaluation. He was released Thursday night and taken to the Linn County Jail. He remained in custody Friday in lieu of $15,000 cash bond.
