Authorities are looking for a suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman on the University of Iowa campus.
Officials say a woman reported she was walking alone along the south side of Jefferson Street, near the Biological Sciences Library, around 9 p.m. Thursday when she was pulled from behind into the alley and sexually assaulted. The victim suffered minor injuries.
"As far as we know, we do not have a report of a weapon being used," said University of Iowa director of public safety Chuck Green. "We are still processing everything."
Authorities are searching for a white male suspect in his mid-20s, 6 feet 2 inches tall, 220 pounds with short hair. The suspect has a scar over the left eye close to his temple and no facial hair. Authorities say he was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and sweat shorts.
Officials recommend walking in groups as much as possible and reporting crimes immediately by calling 911. Officials also encourage using NITE Ride, Cambus or other reliable transportation services.
Anyone with information about this incident should call the University of Iowa police at (319) 335-5022 or Iowa City Crimestoppers at (319) 358-TIPS. Callers to Crimestoppers with information leading to a conviction may be eligible for a reward.
