Police said they found a Cedar Rapids woman watching TV after she allegedly stabbed a man in the chest.
Elizabeth A Cavin, 51, of 1425 Sixth Ave. SE, has been charged with willful injury in connection with the assault at her residence on Saturday afternoon. She is accused of stabbing the man she lives with, Michael Loftus, 50, in the chest with a knife, causing a punctured lung and other injuries, according to court documents.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said officers responded to Cavin and Loftus' residence around 3 p.m. for a disturbance, but no one was injured. Police were summoned back to the house around 4:15 p.m. after the stabbing. Cavin was found inside watching TV, police said. No other details were released about what led up to the argument.
Loftus, who was sitting on the knife on the front porch when police arrived, was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. His condition is unknown.
Hamblin said officers noticed the odor of alcohol inside the house the first time they responded, but she did not know if either party was intoxicated when Loftus was stabbed.
Cavin remained in custody Thursday at the Linn County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bond.
