A Cedar Rapids man has been charged with drunken driving after he crashed into a police car.
Ronald Porter, 52, of 1221 32nd St. NE, has been charged with operating while intoxicated and failure to maintain control after the crash around 1:40 a.m. Sunday. He was arrested Thursday morning at his residence.
According to a police report, Porter was westbound in the 1100 block of First Avenue West in a sport-utility vehicle when he lost control, causing the SUV to spin across the center line into the path of a Cedar Rapids patrol car driven by Officer Nathan Trimble.
Both Porter and Trimble were taken to area hospitals, but neither man was seriously hurt. The police car, a 2001 Ford, was a total loss.
Porter was taken to the Linn County Jail where he has since been released on his own recognizance.
