The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Floyd County Sheriff's Office will hold a news conference Thursday afternoon to announce "a significant development in the seven-year investigation into the death of five year old Evelyn Miller."
More than 1,300 volunteers combed the Floyd County countryside to locate Miller, who disappeared July 1, 2005, from the apartment she shared with her mother and her mother's boyfriend. A kayaker found Evelyn's body five days later in the Cedar River.
No one has been charged in the slaying, but the case is still open.
The news conference is set for 1:30 p.m. at the Floyd Community Center, 706 Fairfield St. Among those in attendance will be DCI Assistant Director Chari Paulson, Floyd County Sheriff Rick Lynch, DPS Investigative Operations Director Kevin Frampton and members of the Christie family, Miller's paternal grandparents.
