A man apparently jumped from a a second-floor window in an attempt to get away from police early Tuesday morning.
Officers responded around 5:35 a.m. to a domestic disturbance at Bever Apartments, 1415 Bever Ave. SE. They learned a man was inside an apartment with a female illegally, due to a no-contact order she had against him.
The man, later identified as 36-year-old Travis Gardner, came out onto the balcony, saw officers and went back inside the apartment, police said. Once officers got up to the door, it was locked. Noises could be heard inside, but no one would answer the door for officers.
Another officer who went to the back of the apartment building noticed the rear window had been broken out. A footchase with Gardner ensued a short time later, and he was eventually found in the basement of an acquaintance at 1427 Fourth Ave. SE, police said.
Despite the jump, police said Gardner was not injured.
Gardner was arrested for violating the no-contact order and on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving while suspended. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.
