Shores Event Center plans Oct. 1 opening event in C.R.

The new Shores Event Center at 700 16th St. NE plans a community grand opening event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.

The public is invited to tour the new venue, sample products and services from Shores Event Center Venue Partners, and celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Shores Building.

“The interest in the space has been overwhelming so far," Shores Event Center Manager Mindy Seifert said in a statement released Wednesday, Sept. 7. "Shores Event Center may very well be the most charming and unique space available for special events in the community.”

Seifert said the flexibility of the center has been appealing to businesses and brides. Partnerships have been established with Cedar Rdige Vineyards & Winer, Catering by LJ's and other local vendors. But the event center does not require customers to use vendors for their events.

Built in 1911, the Shores Building was originally home to the Shores-Mueller Co. The company sold products direct to consumers via catalogs.

Shores-Mueller Co. offered a range of products that were produced, packaged, and sold right from the Shores building located at 700 16th Street NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Although the building is now home to multiple businesses, including the new Shores Event Center, it has remained an anchor in the Irish District neighborhood.
