After the attacks, patriotic fervor swept the nation, and the demand for American flags soared.
National Flag and Flagpole of Cedar Rapids extended its hours to meet local demand and had Internet sales all over the country.
The Washington Post reported that flag factories in China were running 24 hours a day, trying to keep up with demand. The Shanghai Mei Li Hua Flags Co. reported 500,000 orders in the week after Sept. 11. The Jin Teng Flag Co. had 600,000 orders.
