Police said a routine bar check turned up cocaine and marijuana early Thursday morning.
Around 12:20 a.m., officers went to Cedar River Landing, 301 F Ave. NW. They found a car running in the parking lot, but no one was in the driver's seat.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said an officer shined a light into the car, and a front-seat passenger, later identified as Holland J. Ewing, 22, of Dalton, Ill., put his hand into his pocket. Police also noticed a pocket knife on the seat.
Ewing refused police orders to remove his hand from his pocket, police said. Officers secured the knife and detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Ewing was handcuffed, and police found three baggies of what was believed to be cocaine, Hamblin said. They later discovered six baggies of marijuana in Ewing's coat.
Ewing was arrested on suspicion of two counts of possession of a controlled substance and interference with official acts. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.
