Baseball bat assault in Marion leaves two with head injuries

A Cedar Rapids man faces several charges after police say he hit two men in the head with a baseball bat last weekend.
Andrew B. Shank, 20, of 1831 Cedarwood Terrace SE, was charged Thursday with two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapons and two counts of assault causing bodily injury. He is accused of assaulting Evan McGuire, 19, and Kevin Evans, 32, both of Marion, at 123 Cedar Dr. on Sept. 17, according to court documents.
According to a criminal complaint, Shank used a baseball bat to strike McGuire in the face and Evans in the right side of the head. He also allegedly punched Evans in the face.
Both men needed medical attention, according to the complaint. Evans had lacerations and a separation of his right ear.
Marion police were unavailable Friday to provide any other details about the case.
Shank was being held at the Linn County Jail in lieu of $17,000 cash bond.
