Two hurt in crash at Springville corner

Two people were hurt in a crash along Highway 151 on Sunday near Springville.

Justin McFarland, 19, of Marion, was northbound in a car around 6:25 p.m. when he turned left into the path of a southbound minivan driven by Stephen Michener, 68, of Cedar Rapids, according to the Linn County sheriff's office. McFarland was attempting to turn off Highway 151 onto Springville Road.

Ambulances took McFarland to St. Luke's Hospital and Michener to Mercy Medical Center. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, authorities said. Both men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Michener remained hospitalized in good condition Monday morning, a Mercy spokeswoman said, while McFarland was no longer listed as a patient at St. Luke's.

McFarland was cited for failure to yield and no insurance.
