All charges have been dropped against a soldier and Manchester native who was accused of rape in Oregon.
Sgt. Timothy J. Hartbeck, 22, was released from jail Monday evening after a court order dismissing charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse because of insufficient evidence, according to Tim Lewis, a records technician at the Multnomah County Jail.
Hartbeck and Spc. Stephan J. Bardos, 27, were arrested Sept. 4 by Portland police after two underage females, ages 17 and 15, claimed they were sexually assaulted by numerous men at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Portland. Bardos remained in custody Tuesday on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy, according to online jail records.
Military officials confirmed Hartbeck and Bardos were stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. Hartbeck enlisted in the Army in 2007 and served in Afghanistan in 2009 and 2010, officials said.
Hartbeck attended West Delaware High School before he joined the military.
