A former office manager for a Coca-Cola bottling company in Cedar Rapids has been accused of embezzling more than $34,000 from the company.
Kathryn M. Evans, 48, of Fairfax, has been charged with first-degree theft in the case. Police said Evans worked at the regional office at 851 66th Ave. SW until April 2011, one month before a Coca-Cola auditing team discovered the discrepancies.
Cedar Rapids police spokeswoman Sgt. Denni Randall said Evans was responsible for making deposits, but several were not made between May 2009 to March 2011.
"She was making other deposits to cover up the deposits that weren't done," Randall said.
Coca-Cola conducted an internal investigation and notified police in late July. Evans was arrested Nov. 4, booked at the Linn County Jail and released on her promise to appear in court.
Evans did not make any statements to police investigators upon the advice of her attorney, Randall said.
