UPDATED: An Iowa City man is accused of assault causing bodily injury after authorities say he struck a man in the eye with a can of beer while at a July 31 gathering in Iowa City.
Luis A. Chirinos, 25, of 1932 Delwood Drive, allegedly hit a man with his fist and a full can of beer two times while attending a gathering at 4840 Oak Crest Hill Road.
Two witnesses told authorities that they had seen the incident at the gathering and verified that Chirinos was the individual who allegedly hit the man.
Johnson County Sheriff's Office records indicate the injured man suffered an orbital fracture to his left eye as a result of the alleged assault.
A warrant was issued for Chirinos's arrest in August after he failed to appear for his pretrial conference and arraignment for the alleged assault in July, Johnson County sheriff's records indicate.
He was located after officers were dispatched to 2127 Kountry Lane No. 8 in reference to a verbal argument at 12:03 a.m. Wednesday. Upon contact, Chirinos allegedly told officers that his name was Fernando J. Diaz.
During a search at the residence, paperwork was located listing Chirinos' name. He allegedly told officers that it belonged to his roommate.
Tattoo information on active warrants and past mug shot photos helped officers to identify that the man they were speaking to was in fact Chirinos, Johnson County Sheriff's Office records indicate.
Chirinos was being held at the Johnson County Jail on a $10,000 bond Wednesday morning.
He faces
charges of assault causing bodily injury and obstructing officers.
