Wright, Harold S.
Harold S. Wright, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died at home Saturday, April 10, 2010, after an extended illness. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. John Caughron of First Christian Church, Center Point. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Harold is survived by his three children, Ken and Sharon Wright of Cedar Rapids, Linda and Steve Jenkins of Cedar Rapids and Roy and Kristine Wright of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marian Shaffer; and his loving companion of 13 years, Mary Wisehart.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Wright in 1996; brother, Everett Bacon; and great-great-grandson, Zane.
Harold was born June 11, 1920, in Edgewood, Iowa, to William and Maria Bacon, but due to family illness adopted by Roy and Ina Wright. He married Mae L. Carlson on July 19, 1941, in Kirksville, Mo. He worked for Hawkeye Oil Co. for 39 years as maintenance supervisor.
Harold was a self-taught man who could fix, invent or build anything. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved motorcycles, machines, going to his cabin in Bellevue and above all his family. He taught his children by example to always work hard, help others and do the right thing. He was a friend of Bill W.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Station 5 Fire Department for all their assistance.
