Assault weapons are too easy to find

Regarding Doug Thompson's Jan. 4 letter, “Blame the people, not the guns”: Thompson is wrong when he states that no gun-show loopholes exist. I have covered auctions for more than 30 years in the Midwest and have seen thousands of guns and ammo sold. If you were breathing and could raise your hand, you could buy any gun possible. And if you think background checks on all were done, you are delusional.
Buy a weekly “collectors journal” printed here in Iowa and see how many guns and ammo are sold weekly. If you have a driver's license and an address, you're in no matter what state of mind you are and then you can sell them to anyone in the world. The number of guns out there is astronomical and everybody has access to them.
I fish and hunt and consider it a sport. I do not need an AR-15 or assault rifle to hunt and don't understand why anybody would. Nor do I need to fire 75 rounds a minute.

I do not use bullets that implode upon contact. Imagine the massive damage if a first-grader got hit by one.
These things are not emotionally driven. They are logical.
Doing nothing is delusional.
