City Manager Jeff Pomeranz has issued a challenge to all residents of Cedar Rapids as part of the City's new sustainability initiative, iGreenCR. He is challenging every citizen to collect at least one bag of litter this year to help CleanUpCR in neighborhoods, around workplaces and roadways or wherever citizens see the need.
Citizens are encouraged to pick up a free City Manager's 1-Bag Challenge kit at any Cedar Rapids Hy-Vee Food or Drug Store customer service counter. The kit includes a bag and a pair of gloves. The filled 1-Bag Challenge bag can be set out next to the GARBY cart on a normal garbage collection day. The special City Manager's Challenge bags do not require an extra $1.50 sticker.
“I challenge everyone to take pride in Cedar Rapids and help us keep it clean and safe,” said Pomeranz. “When you take my 1-Bag Challenge, please share your story with me on our website www.CleanUpCR.com.”

Pomeranz introduced the new iGreenCR sustainability initiative and issued his challenge at a news conference on Saturday, March 17, which was immediately followed by a special Race to CleanUpCR. More than 20 adults and children participated in the 15-minute race and collected 70 pounds of litter.
In addition, City employees and volunteers passed out about 4,000 City Manager's 1-Bag Challenge litter collection kits to people along the St. Patrick's Day parade route. You can learn more about these programs at
