The state needs to support universal preschool given the additional curricular expectations put on kindergarten. Preschool is a needed transitional step into kindergarten and its benefits are significant to the success of the total educational program.
Regarding the governor's push for education reform in Iowa, schools do not need any more unfunded mandates or a system that may negatively affect a teacher's earning potential. At this time, I feel I cannot offer additional comment until all the details are laid out.

In our school district, some of my concerns would be ensuring the appropriate safety policies and practices are in place to insure staff and students have a safe and healthy environment to work and learn. My other concerns would be bringing more transparency and accountability by supporting a course of action in which all stakeholders will have the ability to understand budgetary items concerning spending, operations and bidding practices. We need to make certain that in-house and/or outsourced services are operating in a fiscally responsible and effective manner and all district funds are spent in a manner that will maximize student achievement.
My background in facility operations and safety regulations while previously serving the district would bring a needed knowledge base to the board. I look forward to serving the district and community again.
