Whole Foods Market to open Iowa store

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Whole Foods Market, which sells natural and organic foods with a focus on locally grown products, is bringing its first store in Iowa to West Des Moines.

Michael Bashaw, president of the company's Midwest region, says the store will employ about 125 people and should open in the spring of 2012. Bashaw says the company is looking at other sites for a second location in Des Moines.

The next closest store now is in Omaha, Neb.

Whole Foods has more than 300 stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. It employs more than 60,000 people. It was found in 1980 in Austin, Texas.
