Solon tabs Pershing as its boys' basketball coach

Washington grad is longtime assistant

SOLON - Jason Pershing is Solon new head boys’ basketball coach, Spartans Athletics Director announced Friday afternoon. His hiring is pending school board approval.

Pershing prepped at Cedar Rapids Washington and has assistant coaching experience at his alma mater, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Linn-Mar, Mount Vernon and Coe College.

He replaces Brad Randall, who stepped down after this past season.

“We’re very excited about having Coach Pershing lead our boys’ basketball program,” McSweeney said. “We believe our guys are going to love his positive energy, passion, and approach to coaching. He’s been a student of the game under some very well-respected names in the sport, and our committee was extremely impressed with his knowledge about coaching the modern game. I can’t wait to get him in front of our guys.”

Pershing played collegiately at Ellsworth Community College and Mount Mercy. He is an at-risk coordinator/alternative education director at Mount Vernon High School.
