The postseason volleyball trek begins Tuesday with first-round regional matches in Class 2A and Class 1A.

Top area small-school teams like North Cedar (2A, River Valley Conference tournament champion) and Springville (1A, Tri-Rivers Conference tournament champion) earned first-round byes, and won’t play until the quarterfinals next Monday.

Iowa City Regina (21-13) is probably the best area team in action Tuesday. The Regals host Lisbon (12-14) at 7 p.m.; a victory would give the Regals a shot at archrival West Branch (19-15) in the quarterfinals.

Other top area 2A squads playing Tuesday are Jesup (20-13, at home against North Linn) and Montezuma (27-8, 14 straight wins, at Colfax-Mingo).

Tournaments continue Wednesday with regional quarterfinals in 5A, 4A and 3A.
