IOWA CITY — For the past eight seasons, Scott Sanders has been an assistant at one of the state’s top volleyball programs.

Now, he’ll get his shot at leading it.

Sanders was named the head coach at Iowa City West on Tuesday, pending board approval.

“I am pleased to be able to add Coach Sanders as a head coach,” West Athletics Director Craig Huegel said in a release. “Scott has been an integral part of our volleyball program, and will continue to enhance the knowledge and skills of our players in our program moving forward.

“He will strive to maximize the potential of our teams, while ensuring that our student-athletes have a fun, rewarding experience.”

Sanders succeeds Randy Dolson, who left after three years to take over the Iowa City Liberty program. He was on the West staff under Kathy Bresnahan when the Women of Troy won back-to-back Class 4A state titles in 2010 and 2011.
