Liberty announces cross country, golf coaching hires

Hildebrand, McDonough will coach Lightning cross country teams; McCarty, Wernimont will lead golf program

NORTH LIBERTY — Iowa City Liberty principal Scott Kibby announced four more varsity coaching hires Monday.

Tonya McDonough, who won state championships with Bennett-Durant and Marion, will be the girls’ cross country coach, and Josh Hildebrand will pilot the boys’ program.

Hildebrand has been an assistant at Iowa City High since 2005.

Sean McCarty has been selected as the boys’ golf coach; Brian Wernimont will lead the girls. Both are club professionals at Brown Deer Golf Course.

Also, Katie Melloy has been announced as the dance coach.
