Mount Vernon senior Austin Ash has accepted a preferred walk-on spot at Iowa, he announced Saturday on Twitter.

The 6-2 guard led the Mustangs (17-6) with 16.0 points per game last season on 48.1 percent shooting, including 42.6 percent from the 3-point line.

Ash tested himself against college competition this summer, participating in the Prime Time League with Iowa, UNI and area small-college players.

“My head coach talked to me about playing in it,” Ash said in July. “It sounded like it’d be a good idea playing with these college guys. It’s a good experience for me.”
