AMES — The Iowa State men’s basketball team has been bit by the injury bug many times this season.

Hans Brase was out the first two games recovering from his second ACL tear, Jakolby Long suffered a concussion, Zoran Talley had a stress fracture in his foot, Brase sprained his ankle and Nick Weiler-Babb has been dealing with tendinitis in his knee the entire year and he’s currently sidelined.

On Monday, Iowa State Coach Steve Prohm said the injury bug has struck again. Brase will be out for a third time this season, this time with an ailing knee.

Prohm has added texting athletic trainer Vic Miller to his morning routine.

“I always text Vic — it’s one of those years you text him, ‘Hey, how many guys do I have today?’ And then he told me about Hans,” Prohm said. “You hate it for him because he’s tried to do every single possible thing,” Prohm said. “I think the ankle injury set him back a little bit. Defensively, you just need so much lower-body strength to play in the post and I just think it’s the wear and tear of that. He’s always in the pool and doing treatment, he’s just going to need some time.”

Prohm added that it’s nothing serious, just that Brase needs rest.

Prohm also gave an update on Weiler-Babb’s tendinitis.

“I would hope he is back for Kansas,” Prohm said. “That would be my thought process. Maybe another week. It’s still hurting and he still needs some time. Today will be his first day back on the floor and it will just be some light shooting. It could be Saturday, but I would plan on Kansas.”
