CEDAR RAPIDS — Together, the Xavier girls’ soccer team has been working toward its ultimate goal: qualifying for the state tournament in June.

“We are hoping to have a winning season that takes us further than last year at state with an awesome group of girls,” senior captain Elena Minor said.

After losing key seniors Ellie Fischer, Addy Hoffman and Melody Snow due to graduation, the returning players and underclassmen will have to work even harder this year.

“We have a very deep bench this year and many talented players,” senior captain Tana Felton said.

The Saints have won three straight matches and stand 4-4 overall. They are ranked 10th in the latest IGHSAU poll.

“As we have seen in our games so far, we have a lot of great players who are more than capable of helping us be successful this year,” Minor said.

The Saints play at Dubuque Senior on Friday and at Kennedy on Tuesday.
