CEDAR RAPIDS — Matt Mims of Cedar Rapids Xavier has been named Metro boys’ basketball player of the year, as selected by the seven head coaches.
Mims is a senior guard who has signed to play college ball at Division I South Dakota State. He recently set Xavier’s career scoring record.
Teammate Jackson Joens also was named to the All-Metro first team. Ryan Luehrsmann was voted coach of the year.
Others on the All-Metro first team are Willie Guy III and Kyler Bell of Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Kris Murray and Griff Clark of Cedar Rapids Prairie, and Trey Hutcheson of Linn-Mar. Guy, Joens and Mims all were unanimous choices.
The second team is Ozzie Meiborg of Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Keegan Murray of Prairie, Jackson Foley and Jack Wetzel of Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Jacob Robertson of Linn-Mar and Chase Zielke and Trevor Paulsen of Marion.
Each team had two honorable mention selections: T.J. Kuennen and Kyran Ligon (Jefferson), Grant Griffin and Ethan Sailer (Kennedy), Harrison Cook and Logan Burg (Prairie), Mick McCurry and Drew Christensen (Washington), Quinn Schulte and Kyle Moeder (Xavier), Nolan Ruff and Nate Annis (Linn-Mar) and Grant Meth and Jevin Manderscheid (Marion).
