Iowa high school boys' basketball 2018 substate pairings: 3A, 4A

The Road to the Well is paved for boys’ basketball teams in Iowa’s larger two classes.

The IHSAA released substate pairings for Class 3A and Class 4A Thursday. Seeds were determined in coaches meetings Wednesday.

Substate quarterfinals are Monday, Feb. 19 in both classes, with the 3A semifinals Thursday, Feb. 22 and 4A semifinals Friday, Feb. 23. Substate finals are Monday, Feb. 26 in 3A and Tuesday, Feb. 27 in 4A.

3A defending champion and top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier hosts Grinnell in the Substate 3 first round. Iowa City West, the defending 4A champion, will host the winner of Cedar Rapids Washington and Iowa City High in a Substate 5 semifinal.

Substate winners advance to the state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, which runs March 5-9.
