CEDAR RAPIDS — The question is who is No. 1 in the final Class 3A and 4A boys’ basketball rankings of the season? The answers are Dubuque Senior and Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Senior jumps from second to first in 4A, after Des Moines Hoover, last week’s No. 1, lost to Johnston this past Friday night, 60-40. The Rams (17-4) have not lost this season with star forward Noah Carter in the lineup.

That’s a perfect 9-0. Carter played the first two games of the season, then missed 12 in a row after having emergency surgery on his left thigh after developing compartment syndrome.

Iowa City West inches from third to second despite losing last week, albeit to Minnesota state champion Cretin-Derham Hall of the Twin Cities. The Trojans are 17-4.

After West, it’s Hoover third, North fourth and Johnston fifth. Pleasant Valley, Sioux City East, North Scott, Waukee and Dubuque Hempstead round out the top 10.

Two-time defending champ Xavier (15-6) stays atop 3A despite a tough 54-49 loss last week to Iowa City West. The rest of the top five is solid, with Mount Pleasant second, Glenwood third, Norwalk fourth and Oskaloosa fifth.

West Delaware slides up from seventh to sixth.
