7 from Somersaults Gymnastics win 'Wonderland' gold

Seven members of the Somersaults Gymnastics team won titles at the 2018 Winter Wonderland Invitational hosted by Iowa Gym Nest last month.

Bentey Rust (beam), Emeri Hill (vault) and Ella Beach (bars) won in Xcel Silver while Kiersten Swart (bars), Emma York (bars), Hannah Brandt (floor exercise) and Baylee Gabrielson (bars) captured gold in Xcel Gold.

Somersaults placewinners were Bella Christensen and Paige McClintock in Xcel Bronze, Carly Cronbaugh and Mackenzie Eichhorn in Silver, Tierney Hill and Ava Christensen in Gold, and Grace Prull in Platinum.

The Gold team placed fifth, the Silver seventh.


Carter Phillips of Dyersville, a member of the Moser School of Dance and Gymnastics, competed in his third USTA Team Trials and placed seventh.

He failed to advance in the process, but “his journey has proven beneficial in setting the goals necessary to obtain the skills he was working for as well as new routines, new experiences and challenges,” Debbie Moser wrote in an email. “He will learn from all those experiences and challenges and put to great use to retry for the Elite USTA National Team in 2020.”

At a USTA Power Tumbling meet in Maquoketa that included around 300 athletes from seven teams, 33 Moser athletes won gold.

Winners were Gertrude Wall, Carter Phillips, Katie Fitzgerald, Myra Clasen, Madelyn Schmitz, Amiya Birkel, Memphis Voelker, Reagan Dolan, Kaydence Ahart, Mikya Britton, Emma Bockenstedt, Taylor Mullis, Carley Hillebrand, Kennedy Bulman, Megan Piersch-Bacher, Madelyn Troester, Allysa Sadewasser, Ella Davidshofer, Emma Fisher, Elyse Konrardy, Parks Grennan, Memphis Peyton, Hayleigh Thomas, Destiny Wall, Grace Anton, Adler Mormann, Abbigail Stoffel, Aaliyah Rosenthal, Julia Kuennan, Laura Pierschbacher, Brody Ries, Madelyn Pope and Lainey Payne.


Reagen Brown was second, along with Emma Oberbroeckling, Cheyenne Varner, Gabrielle Guilford, Isabel Lutgen, Logan Bevans, Isabella Barrett, Whitney Long, Maddesyn Demmer, Lexi Opitz, Aubrey Wilson, Rylee Crubel, Autumn Domeyer, Kendall Wagner, Georgia Werger, Madison O’Hea, Kallyn Henney, Ella Krivanek, Myra Peyton, Vivian Clar, Jorgie Schulte, Delaney Brown, Madilyn Payne, Malin Phelps and Mackenzie Bries.

Third-place finishers were Makayla Gasper, Melanie Lutgen, Paige Kremer, Sophia Geistkemper, Olivia Besler, Jayce Grennan, Claire Jaeger, Libby Knipper, Kennedi Bevans, Kiley Wall, Allie Esmann, Makayla Cuellar, Addison Norton, Brynn Burlage, Ava Oberbroeckling, Kylee McElmeel, Amy Morris, Kadee Batterson, Makenna Payne, Libby Burkle, Leigha Hinrichs, Faith Kirby, Carlie Bergan and Tory Kueter.
